Media Evaluation question 6 & 7

Question 6 & 7- what progression have you learned about the technologies from the process of constructing this product? What progression gave you made from your preliminary task to the full product?

From the process of constructing this product, the things I have learnt now that I didn’t know before was how to download copyright free music and upload them onto iMovie by editing them to make the sound a lot shorter in to places I liked best and to fit the scene correctly at the right time. Another thing that I have learnt is filming different shots and angles such as match on action. For example when we did the preliminary task, from looking back at that to the real product I believe I’ve come a long way from when we started, as the match on action, over the shoulder shot and the actual dialogue we used is much more advanced in the finished product. Lastly another thing that I have learnt now that I didn’t know before is editing. I can now edit a lot better than what I could do previously and can now use and place transitions and music sounds in my opening so the finished product all comes together correctly.

The equipment that we’ve got in school for our media lessons I would say are really good such as we’ve got Apple Mac computers with iMovie built in which gives us a place to edit our movies. I personally think this is a lot better than if you were going to edit on windows as this is much more easier and hi tech. However the less good things about the equipment that we have in school are some of the videos cameras for example, when creating our final product we had to film some of it outside from the scene where the girl is walking home. But when playing it back the shot went really bright so you couldn’t really see the girl in the shot. However once we edited it onto iMovie it actually fitted in with the idea of the scene as when the girl is happy and walking home the scene is bright which may show the audience that she’s jolly and cheerful, and when she’s all sad in the house after her boyfriend has just dumped her the scenes are all dark so when we finished and edited it all, it actually all came along together nicely.

The little things that could have made our final product better is using a tripod for the camera to sit on, so when we were filming parts where she was just sat still the shot would have been less shaky, and look more at a professional standard. Also for the parts where the camera needed moving e.g. when she was walking home, we could have used the tripod on wheels so it would have been a better panning shot and again it would have been less shaky. Another thing that we could have done to make the opening look better was by adding more props for example, when the girl and her friend are sat in the café they could have actually had a drink or cup on the table to make it more realistic and we could have asked for more people to be in it so it actually looked like there were more people in the café and it wasn’t just all a setup.

From when we did the preliminary task when we took a camera and messed around with different shots and angles, to get a rough idea of what creating an opening scene would be like, looking back at it now and putting it along the side of what we have created recently which is the finished product you can tell the different between the one that was a practise and the real thing. By doing the preliminary task though helped me in a lot of ways, for example being able to edit it and test out different shots, if we hadn’t of done that and gone straight to the real thing, personally I don’t think it would have turned out that good, and we wouldn’t have been able to look at back at it to compare how well we’ve done and the difference that there is. The progression that I have made from doing this has been that I could think of different and better story lines as in my opinion the story line in the finished product isn’t boring as the one that we created firstly, for example this leads on to story and makes the viewer think what’s going to happen next whereas the other one was just in a set up interview room with no story really to it.
